News: Energise away those Christmas empties
Lifestyle
09 November 2008
This Christmas, Harpers Fitness the public access and community health and fitness brand is encouraging more people to sit up and take notice of what's going into their recycling box in a bid to beat the bulge.
Victoria Branch, Harpers Fitness Marketing Manager said: "It's always good to be green but according to recent figures released by The Drinkaware Trust, an average recycling box-load of empties contains in excess of 11,000 calories!"
To shed some of these additional calories, Harpers Fitness has a
quick guide to what you might want to do to burn off some of those
moments on the lips.
The average British woman weighing 65kg would need to:
- Cycle for 28 hours
- Do step aerobics for 16 hours
- Lift weights at your local gym for 53 hours
- Swim at a moderate pace for 53 hours
All to shift a month's worth of alcohol! With nearly 500 calories appearing in every bottle of wine we drink, enjoying your best Sauvignon Blanc could equate to over an hour's worth of dancing, nearly 2 hours of gardening or over 2 hours shopping! Some girls have all the luck!
With shocking figures such as these, Harpers Fitness is hoping that the British public will do something proactive and fight the flab instead of wallowing and getting down beat about being over-indulgent.
Victoria adds: "Harpers Fitness has a range of keep fit classes in their gyms as well as offering the very latest and modern fitness equipment. And because our customers have the choice of flexible payment options from pay as you go to monthly memberships, you'll need another excuse not to keep active this Christmas."
Harpers Fitness provides a cost effective way to keep fit and
healthy and with more than 60 gyms in leisure and sports centres
across the UK there promises to be a centre near you. The
cost of a Leisure Connection gym membership varies between their
many sites but the average cost is well under £30.
